The Civil Guard denies having prior information about the migratory avalanche in Ceuta

The Civil Guard has assured Judge María Tardón, who is investigating the case for the illegal entry of 80,000 people through the Ceuta border on July 30 and 31, that she had no information in the previous days about the "dimension" of the avalanche of migrants that was hovering over the border, and that she has no data on how many people crossed or their affiliations.

The report sent to Tardón, the content of which EL MUNDO has had access to, strictly supports, in a very aseptic manner, the version maintained until now by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and by the President of the Government: there was no, Information from the Civil Guard maintains, previous data that could predict what was coming. Information was shared with other bodies, but neither in its content nor in its scope was it known what was going to happen, the document says.

The report does not mention any information issued by the National Intelligence Center (CNI), it limits itself to answering the five questions issued by Tardón and contrasts strikingly with that carried out by the National Police, which contradicts the Government on essential points, pointing out that there were previous alerts and pointing to Moroccan agents in the planning and execution of the events.

The Civil Guard, for its part, assures that there was no way of knowing beforehand what was going to happen, and does not make any judgment about the attribution of authorship. That is, it does not accuse anyone of plotting and carrying out the attack.

The document prepared by the Information unit of the Armed Institute is limited to exposing, in five succinct pages, the mission of its agents at the El Tarajal border in those hours, limiting itself to the humanitarian action of saving lives once they noticed that the volume of migrants crossing by swimming and on foot was uncontrollable.

La Benemérita limits itself, at this point, to pointing out that it was materially impossible to identify or identify any of the people who crossed the border, and otherwise simply describes to Judge Tardón, with some drama, the scenes experienced there by her agents. But, in terms of responsibilities, it is a hollow document: it neither points to possible culprits, nor does it admit previous reports that warned of the "dimension" of the human tide that was upon us, which flooded the autonomous city for days, and still keeps some 9,000-10,000 migrants swarming through the barely 20 square kilometers of the enclave.

The contrast with the CENIF report of the National Police Corps is overwhelming. La Benemérita sources tell this newspaper that the objective of the report in any case is to answer the questions asked by Tardón, who did not ask for any attribution of authorship. Even so, the Civil Guard does give a certain air to the Executive, by denying having prior knowledge of what President Pedro Sánchez called an "attack on the sovereignty" of Spain.
