Minister Sira Rego recognizes the Government's responsibility in managing the massive arrival of migrants to Ceuta

This Saturday, the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, conveyed a message of solidarity and self-criticism to Ceuta society and recognized that the Government has "a part of responsibility" in the situation of "extraordinary overflow" that the autonomous city experienced after the entry of thousands of migrants last July.

In an interview on Radio 5, Rego referred to the criticism received by the Executive for the management of the situation in Ceuta and defended the need to "self-criticize" and "take charge" of the mistakes made.

"It is true that we have a part of the responsibility, obviously. It is true that there was a situation of extraordinary overflow and the coordination should have been more efficient or faster," admitted the minister, who has claimed to have witnessed situations "that we obviously do not like."

Rego has defended that the Government must focus its efforts on "repairing, resolving and caring for the citizens of Ceuta", but also for people who are "in a vulnerable situation" and who, from a humanitarian point of view, need attention.

"You can do both things at the same time," said the minister, in reference to the need to serve both the Ceuta population and migrants, in the face of the "ultras" speeches of the right, which she criticized during the interview.

"I want to convey to the population of Ceuta all my solidarity and also self-criticism, which is important," concluded Rego, before highlighting that the State has approved numerous resources to address the situation. "Ceuta is a very important place for this Government," he stressed, while ensuring that the Executive will continue working in the autonomous city in coordination with its authorities.
