Oberhavel district: Police operation in Velten - dangerous situation averted

A man was arrested after an hour-long police operation in Velten (Oberhavel district). He barricaded himself in a residential building on Viktoriastrasse on Thursday afternoon, the police said. After several phone calls, the officers managed to get him to leave the building late in the evening. It initially remained unclear why the man had barricaded himself in and whether he was armed. Nobody was injured.

According to a police spokesman, the length of the operation was also due to the fact that nine children and two trainers from a sports club had to be brought to safety. As a precaution, they had locked themselves in another part of the building. All children have now been safely handed over to their parents.
