The Minister for Rural Affairs wants to place a new hunting and game conservation authority in Karlstad

The investigation into a new hunting and wildlife conservation authority was appointed by the government in July 2023 and presented last year. According to the investigation, such an authority would mean 277 annual manpower. Now the Minister of Rural Affairs wants to work in the next term of office to place such an authority in Karlstad.

- We are a county that has the most species of game. Hunting and game conservation are important to the Värmlanders and I think we could staff such an authority in a good way.

The majority of the county boards against it

When referral responses were submitted to the investigation, it emerged that a majority of the county administrative boards advise against or disapprove of the government's proposal for a new national authority for wildlife management.

Among other things, they emphasize the risks of sharing species protection and wildlife management between two national authorities and a split responsibility. Peter Kullgren, on the other hand, believes that it is mostly about describing the advantages more clearly from a political perspective:

- In itself, it is not strange that if you have a task today that we want to put somewhere else, that you are a little critical of it. But I think it will be good once it is in place.
