Lavrov describes German accusations after drone discovery as “start of a real war”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov calls the German accusations against Moscow over the attempted bomb attack at Leipzig airport the “beginning of a real war”. The minister told Russian state television: “Leipzig airport (...) They found a drone there. They said it was a Russian drone. Nobody has clarified this. This is actually the beginning of a real war.”

The German sanctions such as the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the cultural institute in Berlin reminded him of the beginning of the Second World War, Lavrov said. Apparently the Germans wanted war again, he was quoted on the website of the news program “Westi”. The Russian chief diplomat is known for his harsh choice of words.

At the beginning of August, a drone with an explosive device was found near a Ukrainian transport plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport. There was no explosion. Two more drones were later found. After four weeks of investigation, the federal government attributed the attempted attack to Russian secret services at the beginning of September.

Berlin assumes that Germany is the target of covert operations by Russian intelligence services because of its support for Ukraine, which is being attacked by Russia.
