The organizers of the 2027 Cycling Super Worlds unveil the time trial route around Lake Annecy

The organizers of the cycling "Super Worlds" in 2027 in Haute-Savoie (August 24-September 5) have unveiled the route of the time trial events which will take place around Lake Annecy, Friday on the sidelines of the World Championships in Montreal. The start will be given in the heart of Annecy (east) and the athletes will then follow the lake passing through Sévrier, Saint-Jorioz, Duingt and Doussard before approaching the coast of Talloires (1.5 km at 6.5%) and returning towards Annecy via Menthon-Saint-Bernard and Veyrier-du-Lac.

The course will be 37.2 kilometers long with 235 meters of elevation gain, for men, women and hopefuls alike. The juniors will cover 20.3 km starting from Doussard. The route for the online races had already been revealed. They will take the same circuit which saw Bernard Hinault win the world title in 1980 with the formidable Domancy hill (2.5 km at 9.4%). The men will climb it 20 times (265 km in total for 5,700 meters of elevation gain!) on August 29 and the women twelve times on September 5, at the end of the Worlds.

15,000 athletes expected

Organized halfway between the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the Alps 2030 Olympic Games, these “Super Worlds” will bring together twenty cycling disciplines, including disabled sports. Olympic sports like road, mountain biking, BMX or track and others much more confidential like bike polo or speedway cycling. This makes seven more disciplines than in 2023 in Glasgow, the city which inaugurated this expanded format now bringing together all cycling families each pre-Olympic year.

Some 15,000 athletes from 206 national federations are expected in 2027 for a total of 288 world titles distributed. In France, they will take place on fifteen sites, all in Haute-Savoie (east), except the track, which will take place in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, near Paris, after an unfavorable vote by the municipal council of La Roche-sur-Foron two years ago regarding an Arena project integrating a velodrome.
