Lexar Muse: The World's Thinnest Portable SSD Model Introduced

Lexar Muse, the world's thinnest portable SSD model, was introduced for iPhone users with its 3.8 mm thickness and magnetic connection support.

Lexar broke new ground in the world of portable storage with its new product introduced at the IFA 2026 fair in Berlin. Lexar Muse portable SSD is the world's thinnest external drive with a maximum thickness of 3.8 mm.

The device has a precision-machined solid metal body with dimensions of 80 x 48 mm. This design was specifically developed to meet the portability and durability needs of mobile content creators on the go.

Technical Details and Innovative Magnetic Connection

Lexar carried out quite complex engineering work to achieve this ultra-thin form. The company used a custom PCB architecture, high-density NAND stacking technology, and an optimized internal component layout for this design.

While the body of the device measures 3.8 mm at its thickest point, the edges taper to only 1 mm thick. This structure ensures that the device remains both light and very compact.

Instead of the traditional USB Type-C port, the device uses a magnetic data connection called PogoPina. This system ensures that the connection always remains in correct alignment, thanks to spring-loaded pins and N52 class neodymium magnets.

SnapLink Magnetic Cable holds onto the driver securely thanks to these pins. With the help of a magnetic case, the device can be attached directly to the back of MagSafe supported iPhone models.

This integration allows iPhone users to record Apple ProRes 4K videos directly onto the SSD at 120 fps. This feature offers great convenience, especially for mobile content creators who produce high-quality videos.

Despite its size, Lexar Muse doesn't make any compromises in performance. The drive can reach sequential read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s.

Capacity Options and Release Schedule

The new generation storage solution offers users two different capacity options for different needs. Lexar Muse will be released with two different storage capacities: 512 GB and 1 TB.

The company announced that it plans to launch this new SSD model in the fourth quarter of 2026. Details about the pricing of the product have not yet been shared by the company.
