Why It Matters

Live sports reporting of an NRL fixture between the Roosters and the Dolphins.

66' Max Plath you superstar

The Roosters fling the ball everywhere on the last and Siua Wong sets sail for the line, but Max Plath arrives at the last and makes contact up under the ball, driving furiously towards the sideline and forcing the error from Wong.

What a play while down to 12 men.

64' Dolphins burn a desperate captain's challenge

Kulikefu Finefeuiaki appears to have collected Hugo Savala's grubber on the last, but he fumbles as he hits the deck and clearly knocks on to hand it back to the Roosters 10 metres from the tryline.

The Dolphins challenge the call, which was obviously correct, presumably solely to knock a few more seconds off Tom Flegler's time in the sin-bin.

61' Very harsh sin-bin by Todd Smith

The on-field referee warned the Dolphins after a couple of infringements and on the last tackle of yet another set Tom Flegler is sent to the bin for repeated ruck infringements.

You can't say he didn't warn them, but that final infringement was borderline at best.

60' Billy Smith gets away with one

The Roosters centre-turned-winger-turned-centre has just thrown a pass off the ground after being tackled, and mercifully is allowed to just play the ball again.

What's that about?

58' Roosters find their rhythm

Daly Cherry-Evans has taken control of the team and they've got a few set restarts to settle things down.

DCE rolls it into the in-goal and they get another fresh set of six.

Three in fact after two more six-again calls.

53' Sam Walker is in real trouble with an ankle

The Roosters halfback is hobbling around behind play with what looks like a very painful ankle injury.

He caught his left ankle under the tackle of Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, and he can't put any weight on it.

He has to come off, replaced by Tommy Talau.

Hugo Savala moves to five-eighth and Daly Cherry-Evans takes over as halfback.

51' Roosters are furious with Kurt Donoghoe's shot on James Tedesco

James Tedesco gets a penalty for a high shot by Kurt Donoghoe on the Roosters fullback.

The Phins utility is lucky to stay on the field.

Jeremy Marshall-King fools them all

The Dolphins hooker must have been reading Max Walker's How To Hypnotise Chooks because he has completely bamboozled the entire left-side defence of the Roosters with little more than a look.

The entire defence has eyes only for the attacking threats lined up out wide, but JMK goes himself and dives over from dummy half after a strong Kurt Donoghoe charge.

47' Excellent captain's challenge by the Dolphins

Jack Bostock competes with Billy Smith in the air, but Smith is outjumped and changes to tackling Bostock in the air before the ball arrives.

So the Dolphins have a full set on the Roosters' tryline.

46' The Roosters go close but no cigar

Mark Nawaqanitawase skies for a cross-field kick that was too shallow and throws a pass over his head to Rob Toia.

Toia beats Kodi Nikorima and kicks for himself, but Herbie Farnworth fairly brought him down and the Dolphins get seven tackles as the ball trickles dead.

Good refereeing by the bunker.

41' Roosters kick off to start the half

The Roosters will have to wait a minute to get the ball back. It feels like it's been a while.

HALF-TIME: The Dolphins with all the momentum heading into the break

It's a 20-6 lead for the Queenslanders, who will be pretty unhappy to hear the half-time siren.

The Roosters, meanwhile, after that hot start are entirely capable of reeling back this momentum and don't be surprised if we see them come out hot after the break.

Max Plath with the Alfie Langer putdown!

Kodi Nikorima is toying with the right side of the Roosters and this time, with Herbie Farnworth and Selwyn Cobbo out the back and out wide, Nikorima plays short to Max Plath to barge over and ground the ball over the back of his head.

Cobbo has a first-half double

It's a relatively uninspiring set of six by the Dolphins right on the Roosters' tryline, but it ends with a lovely left-side shift with Kodi Nikorima firing a cut-out ball to Selwyn Cobbo to dive in for his second.

34' It's another mess and the Dolphins lose a try to the bunker

Isaiya Katoa's grubber is once again good enough to force the error from James Tedesco, who knocks on into the chasing Ray Stone.

The ball goes into the in-goal off Stone and Isaiya Katoa gets through to ground the ball.

Referee Todd Smith says it's a try, but the bunker sees the ball hitting Stone's bicep, so it's no try, but the Dolphins get the ball back at the scrum base.

Pure class from the Dolphins

The scrum was packed out on the right wing, opening up the entire left side of the field.

The ball made it's way across thanks to a lovely take by Kodi Nikorima.

He fires it wide to Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, who feels Mark Nawaqanitawase bearing down on him, so he just taps it on to Selwyn Cobbo.

The winger still has Rob Toia, arguably the best defensive centre in the game, to beat and he does it with an in-and-away and a monster fend to dive over out wide.

30' The Dolphins get a full set on the Roosters' line

Siua Wong hands the Dolphins the ball on halfway, and then James Tedesco fumbles an Isaiya Katoa grubber right on the tryline to give them a full set from 10 metres out.

What can they do with a scrum play here?

27' Not the best finish by the Roosters

The Roosters roll up field after their defence keeps the Dolphins pinned in their own half.

But the last tackle looks a little ad-hoc and James Tedesco's grubber barely goes a metre before being met by Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.

Still, the Dolphins start another set right on their tryline.
