Luis de la Fuente renews as national coach until 2032

It is now official, and Luis de la Fuente will be the national coach until 2032. Or not, in this football you never know, but at least his contract says so since this Monday, when it has been ratified by the Board of Directors of the Spanish Federation. The coach would thus be in charge of the national team for 10 years, only surpassed by Kubala.

De la Fuente, who was earning 3.5 million gross a year, is now around five million, approaching figures like Ancelotti, Tuchel or Zidane. The technician's cache has skyrocketed, of course, due to the career since he came to office. Not counting the titles with inferiors (two European and one Olympic silver), the Nations League (2023), the Euro Cup (2024) and of course the World Cup weigh a lot.

The act was a bit strange. A stage has been installed on the main field of Las Rozas, displaying all the trophies won by De la Fuente since he arrived at the Federation in 2013, but someone forgot to check the weather, so the president, Rafael Louzán, the coach himself and the presenter of the event have been sweating under the more than 30 degrees and the unbearable sun that it is this Monday in Madrid.

There they began to explain the reasons for the longest renewal contract in the history of the Federation, where an unwritten law prevailed that renewed the selectors from final phase to final phase. In its first renewal it already skipped that tradition, and ran from 2024 to 2028. This time the project is even longer term and includes, in six years, two Euro Cups (2028 and 2032) and a World Cup (2030), not counting the Nations League.

De la Fuente has a 76% victory rate in his first 50 games with the national team. There are 38 wins, 10 draws and only two defeats, putting Spain at number 1 in the FIFA ranking and being the great candidate to win the Ballon d'Or in a few weeks.
