Macerata mourns Andrea Angeli, journalist and former UN official who died at the age of 68

Andrea Angeli, journalist and former UN official, who participated in numerous international missions including in theaters of war, has died at the age of 68 in Macerata: Angeli, from Macerata, who would have turned 69 on December 6, was found lifeless last night, shortly after 9.30 pm in his home in Via Gramsci.

Some friends raised the alarm to the family, who alerted her sister and brother-in-law who discovered the lifeless body. According to initial findings, the former official died of natural causes. The 118 health workers were also on site but were only able to confirm the death.

Angeli had participated as a spokesperson in numerous United Nations peacekeeping missions, from Iraq to Cambodia, via Namibia and Chile. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina; he managed to track down and save Rosaria Bartoletti, the last Italian citizen remaining in Sarajevo.

Despite his commitments around the world and his residence in the Marche, Rome and New York, he has always remained very close to Macerata.

As soon as they received the news of his passing, many institutions sent their condolences. Angeli graduated in Political Science and Law at the University of Macerata.
