Macron calls on Britain to rejoin the EU during his visit to Spain

On the last day of his visit to Spain, Macron held a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in the capital Madrid.

Asked about British Prime Minister Andy Burnham's statements that "his country's re-joining of the EU is one of the options available to him," Macron said, "Welcome back," referring to the British. he said.

Macron said that if the British want to rejoin the EU and British Prime Minister Burnham moves in this direction, this will be very good news for both their country and the Europeans, adding that the British always make things easier.

Emphasizing that bilateral relations between France and England continue in areas such as defence, security and migration, Macron said, "This is a good decision. (Burnham) is right to show this courage." he said.

Macron stated that it is not possible to benefit from the freedoms offered by the EU on the one hand and reject things that do not suit you on the other hand, and told the British, "Go back (to the EU)." he called.

"I call everyone to calm down"

Expressing that he understands the concerns of young people in France about the climate and geopolitical situation, Macron said, "Any concern or debate cannot legitimize violence." he said.

Macron held local politicians responsible for the violence that took place during the protests he has been carrying out for days to improve the educational conditions of high school students in France and said, "I call on everyone to calm down." he said.

Saying that France will never accept anti-Semitic words, Macron said, "Fighting against anti-Semitism is one of the priorities of the Republic." he said.

Macron stated that the anti-Semitic articles attributed to Jordan Bardella, leader of the far-right National Rally (RN) Party, are extremely serious and unacceptable, and that the relevant people should clarify their words.

In her statement to BBC Radio 4, British Prime Minister Burnham stated that leaving the EU (Brexit) did more harm than good to her country.

Burnham has said in the past: "I want to see Britain rejoin the EU while I'm alive." He stated that he would not contradict his statement.
