Madrid prepares a housing resource for Maricarmen in the face of her new eviction attempt

The Madrid City Council has prepared an "immediate" assistance and housing resource for Maricarmen, the 87-year-old woman who faces a new attempt to evict her from the home in Sainz de Baranda where she has lived for more than seven decades. The mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, pointed out this Wednesday that municipal social services "have been monitoring his situation for months, have issued the corresponding vulnerability report and have already offered him accommodation alternatives."

"If this eviction is definitively carried out, the social services of the Madrid City Council are in a position to provide a care and housing resource to Mari Carmen so that she can immediately have a roof under which she can sleep and try to alleviate or recover from the physical and psychological situation in which she currently finds herself," stated the mayor.

"No one would like to live in a situation like the one Maricarmen is experiencing right now," said Almeida, before describing the situation she is going through as "very hard and very difficult." For this reason, the mayor has appealed to the administrations to act "each within the scope of our powers" to try to alleviate a problem that he has defined as "dramatic due to Maricarmen's age and physical condition." In the case of the City Council, it has detailed that the woman has an assistance service, 90 hours of home help and occupational therapy, in addition to monitoring municipal services.
