In Sardinia, a red alert for rain and thunderstorms has been issued throughout today, November 5th, with the main focus on eastern Sardinia, from Sarrabus to Gallura, passing through Ogliastra. The local Civil Protection has, in fact, issued a warning of high criticality due to hydrogeological risk in the Flumendosa, Flumineddu and Gallura alert areas.

In the same territories also orange code (moderate criticality) for hydrogeological risk and yellow code (ordinary criticality) for hydraulic risk. The ordinary criticality notice for hydrogeological risk for all other areas of the island territory has also been extended until 11.59pm on the 5th.

Precisely following the red weather alert for rain and thunderstorms in eastern Sardinia, the mayors of Olbia and Nuoro, Settimo Nizzi and Emiliano Fenu, signed the school closure orders. In Olbia, the mayor also ordered the closure of public offices that welcome the public, while still guaranteeing minimum essential services, the closure of municipal cemeteries and the "Fausto Noce" urban park and related structures.

"The code red alert requires maximum caution and the adoption of all necessary measures to guarantee people's safety - explained Nizzi - For this reason we have ordered the closure of schools, offices open to the public, cemeteries and the main municipal green and sports areas. We appeal to all citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and scrupulously follow the indications of the Civil Protection and the competent authorities. Prevention and everyone's collaboration are essential to safely face this phase of bad weather".

In Nuoro, city schools of all levels, both public and private, closed, including universities, the municipal library, museums, nurseries, playrooms, gyms, outdoor sports facilities and the cemetery.

What explains the current situation, especially on the islands, is a depression structure present in the western Mediterranean which is moving eastwards, causing a phase of bad weather in Sardinia, with particular reference to the eastern sectors.

Experts say, "scattered to widespread precipitation, including showers or thunderstorms, are expected in the region, with particular reference to the eastern and coastal sectors. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, strong gusts of wind, local hailstorms and frequent electrical activity".

Furthermore, the Regional Civil Protection of Sicily has issued a warning notice for hydrogeological and hydraulic weather risk valid until midnight today, 5 November. A yellow warning is expected in Palermo for showers and thunderstorms.

According to meteorologists, therefore, low pressure is expected for today to the west of Sardinia with the day being characterized by worsening weather on the Islands, with increasingly intense rainfall on the eastern sectors.

In fact, in the North the weather will be stable and sunny in the eastern sectors, while compact clouds will bring light rain to Piedmont.

In the Center the day will pass with clouds alternating with clearing in all regions. Local rainfall will be possible in lower Lazio in the evening.

In the South the sky will be overcast with moderate rain and showers, as mentioned, over Sardinia and Sicily, extending to Calabria. Very rough seas expected.
