Class Time Regulation from the Ministry of Education for the 2026-2027 Academic Year

The Ministry of National Education (MEB) sent the letter titled "Lesson Hours in Dual Education" to 81 provincial governorships.

According to the letter dated September 9, 2026, signed by the Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, the duration of a lesson hour can be reduced from 40 minutes to 30 minutes in schools that meet certain conditions in the 2026-2027 academic year.

According to the Ministry's letter, from the application; Official primary and secondary education institutions that have been moved to another school building within the scope of demolish-build, that provide education in another building due to reinforcement works, and that have to provide double education due to the density of students will be able to benefit.

Shortening class hours will not be automatically implemented in these schools. The decision will be taken within the framework of the plans to be made by the governorships.

A 40-MINUTE CLASS WILL BE REDUCED TO 30 MINUTES

In current regulations, the duration of a lesson hour in primary and secondary education institutions is determined as 40 minutes. In schools with dual education in primary education, at least 10 minutes must be allocated for breaks.

In the new article of the Ministry of Education, it was stated that the 40-minute lesson duration could be reduced to 30 minutes in the schools within the scope for the 2026-2027 academic year.

This has paved the way for the daily education program to be organized more flexibly in schools where morning and afternoon groups use the same building or where there is a busy schedule due to physical conditions.

The letter prepared by the General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education was sent to 81 provincial governorships.

In the article, the current course periods in the Secondary Education Institutions Regulation and the Preschool Education and Primary Education Institutions Regulation were reminded, and it was pointed out that different regulations may be made by the Ministry regarding the functioning of education and training in extraordinary situations.
