This historic step; It comes at a time when conflicts in the Middle East, military tensions and especially the war between the United States and Iran are escalating.
The agreement signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif includes critical articles. According to the agreement, an attack on any member of the alliance is considered an attack on the other two countries.
THE AGREEMENT DOES NOT TARGET ANY COUNTRY
Officials underline that the Mecca Agreement is purely for defensive purposes and will not target any country.
It is aimed to strengthen commitments such as regional and global peace, stability and protection of prosperity on the basis of burden sharing and common security understanding. This goal is summarized as “defense-oriented cooperation”.
THE PURPOSE IS TO STRENGTHEN DETERRENCE
The agreement, which aims to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, stipulates that any armed attack against any of the three states will be considered an attack against all of them.
The focus is on the three countries supporting each other's security and cooperating in defense and military fields.
According to officials, the Mecca Agreement, which does not mean a break with any alliance or agreement, strengthens regional security by completing existing alliance relations and creates a basis for cooperation open to the participation of other countries in the region.
IT HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT FOR A WHILE
The agreement is seen as the result of diplomatic efforts that have been ongoing for a long time.
Claims that a strategic alliance could be established between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have been on the regional agenda for months.
While Pakistan tried to mediate in attempts to end the war between the USA and Iran, Türkiye also played a diplomatic role in the negotiations aimed at resolving the war in Gaza.
