Mersin Mayors and Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Investigation: Seçer, Özyiğit and Tuncer Arrested

The prosecutor's office's interrogation of 60 suspects, who were referred to the courthouse yesterday after being detained within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been completed.

50 of the suspects, including Metropolitan Mayor Seçer, Yenişehir Mayor Özyiğit and Mezitli Mayor Tuncer, were arrested and 10 were brought before the criminal judgeship of peace with a judicial control request.

The judgeship decided to arrest Seçer, Özyiğit and Tuncer. Interrogation of other suspects continues.

A simultaneous operation was carried out on October 1, within the scope of the corruption investigation carried out by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and Mezitli and Yenişehir municipalities.

During the operation, 59 suspects, including Seçer, Özyiğit and Tuncer, were detained, and later, 1 more suspect was caught. It was stated that Private Secretary Doğukan Uyan and 3 people in the Metropolitan Municipality file were arrested in the previous operation.

Irregularities were detected in 13 direct procurement and tender files of the Metropolitan Municipality, and it was determined that Mayor Seçer had his "approval" for the purchases of goods and services in question.

On the other hand, it was learned that an investigation was being carried out against Mezitli Mayor Tuncer within the scope of "managing an armed criminal organization" on the grounds that he had armed attacks on the workplaces of people with whom he had animosity, and it was reported that the New Party Mersin Provincial Headquarters building and the workplace of a media group were among the places where the armed attack took place.
