Mersin-based corruption and tender operation: 59 detained

By the instructions of Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; The operation was carried out today morning within the framework of the tender and direct procurement investigations carried out by the Provincial Police Department Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch teams.

According to the news on IHA, while many addresses were searched during the operation, 59 suspects, including the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) and Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer, Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer and Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit, as well as some department heads, were detained.

While a search was carried out in the municipality within the scope of the operation, police teams took precautions in the surrounding area.

It was stated that during the investigations against Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, a total of 330 million 945 thousand TL public loss was detected in 13 tenders and 63 direct procurement.

In the corruption investigation carried out by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Yenişehir and Mezitli municipalities, it was learned that, according to the initial findings, the public damage in Mezitli Municipality reached 1 billion 10 million 914 thousand TL, while the public damage in Yenişehir Municipality was 105 million TL.

It was learned that an investigation was being carried out against Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer within the scope of "management of an armed criminal organization" on the grounds that he had armed attacks on the workplaces of people with whom he had animosity.

It was determined that the New Party Provincial Headquarters building and a media organization called Çağın Medya were among the places where the armed attack took place.
