MG had 140 plane accidents and 71 deaths in 10 years, points out Cenipa

This Friday (9), two planes crashed in the state within a span of less than five hours. At the end of the morning, a single-engine plane fell onto the subway station rail near São Gabriel station, in Belo Horizonte. The pilot died.

In the late afternoon, a Military Police plane crashed near Vale do Aço Regional Airport, between Ipatinga and Santana do Paraíso. Three members of the corporation were on board and died (see who are the victims).

In the last ten years, 13 accidents involving flights leaving Pampulha Airport were recorded, according to Cenipa. Twelve people died in these incidents.

In May this year, a single-engine plane crashed just three minutes after taking off from the terminal. Three people died and two were injured. Images from Globocop recorded the moment the aircraft lost height and hit a residential building in the Silveira neighborhood, in the Northeast Region of Belo Horizonte.

Three months later, another single-engine plane that had left BH crashed in the Serra Azul district, in Mateus Leme, in the Metropolitan Region. Before impact, the pilot managed to activate the aircraft's parachute. He was rescued and taken to medical care.

Among the most serious cases is the crash of a Federal Police plane, in March 2024, shortly after takeoff in Pampulha. Two federal police officers died.

Two months earlier, in January 2024, a Federal Highway Police helicopter made a forced landing on Avenida Tereza Cristina, in the West Region of Belo Horizonte. A truck driver who was transported after a traffic accident died days later in hospital.

In 2023, a small plane crashed into a house in the Jardim Montanhês neighborhood, during its landing approach. The pilot died.

This Sunday (11), marks two years since the crash of a firefighter helicopter in Ouro Preto, in the Central Region of Minas Gerais. The tragedy killed six people.

The aircraft was searching for survivors of an accident involving the crash of a single-engine aircraft. Archangel 4 fell into a steep mountain range in Ouro Preto.

The bodies of the victims were found near the wreckage of the aircraft. There were four firefighters, a nurse and a doctor from EMS in the helicopter.
