Microsoft is abandoning the Copilot Plus PC brand

Microsoft is making a significant change regarding the Copilot Plus PC brand, which has been on the agenda of the technology world for a while. The company prefers not to use this special nomenclature it created for artificial intelligence-supported computers in its new devices.

After two and a half years, Microsoft and Qualcomm seem to accept that this brand has reached the end of its life. Despite meeting the hardware requirements of new generation computers, Microsoft no longer calls these devices Copilot Plus PC.

According to Windows Central, the new 12-inch Microsoft Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop models technically meet all the necessary system requirements. However, Microsoft Surface CVP Brett Ostrom made it clear that these devices are no longer called Copilot Plus PCs.

Kedar Kondap, Qualcomm's senior vice president, agrees. Kondap states that computers that offer similar experiences will no longer use this branding.

It is not surprising that Microsoft and its partners are moving away from this brand. In 2024, many experts predicted that almost every computer would soon have the basic AI hardware levels represented by this brand.

The Recall tool, which is the most striking feature of Copilot Plus PC devices, was not received very positively by users. In addition, Microsoft has been at the center of criticism for its artificial intelligence sales attempts that constantly disturb Windows users and the special Copilot keyboard key that can now be reassigned.

Microsoft's flagship hardware is now focused on Nvidia chips. These chips are expected to usher in a new era in the use of personal artificial intelligence on Windows.

The company will hold an event on October 7 about how local artificial intelligence will shape the future of computers. At this event, a new naming strategy is expected to be announced to replace the Copilot Plus PC brand.
