Death of Vanessa Cella: sentences requested for the doctors involved

Three years and six months for the anesthetist, three years for the surgeon and two years and six months for the medical director: these were the requests formulated yesterday by the Torre Annunziata prosecutor's office in the indictment of the trial on the death of Vanessa Cella, the 37-year-old who died on 26 March 2022 after three cosmetic surgery operations performed in sequence in the Santa Maria la Bruna nursing home in Torre del Greco, province of Naples.

Prosecutor Marianna Ricci also asked judge Antonio Fiorentino to send the documents to the investigators so that further investigations can be carried out into the management of the clinic where Vanessa lost her life.

At the end of his discussion, the plaintiff's lawyer Enrico Ricciuto instead asked the judicial authority that any suspension of the sentence "be granted only after full compensation to all the family members" of the victim.

According to the medical tests carried out during the investigations, the woman's death was attributable to asphyxia due to inhalation of blood into the airways: the 37-year-old never woke up from the anesthesia despite repeated attempts at resuscitation.

The investigation carried out after the death initially saw the registration of five doctors. The sentence is expected on October 2nd.

The Cella family, through their lawyer, praised "the high professionalism of the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office for the analytical investigations carried out" which made it possible to shed light on Vanessa's death. The trial, which began on 9 September 2023, took place over the course of twenty hearings during which fifteen witnesses and eleven doctors from the parties in question were heard.
