Statement from the Ministry of National Defense on Eastern Mediterranean and Border Security

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) held its weekly information meeting.

Ministry of Defense sources made statements regarding the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

"In the current period of increasing crisis and tension in our region, military developments on the Island of Cyprus are closely followed by us." Ministry of Defense sources stated, "The claims that the air defense system in the Greek Cypriot Administration does not pose a direct threat to the Turkish Cypriot people and the TRNC cannot constitute a justification for ignoring the security and legitimate rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people." he said.

Sources stated that the Ministry of National Defense closely follows all developments in the region and explained that the necessary measures have been taken and used the following statements:

“Our Turkish Armed Forces continue their training and activities in the international waters and airspace of the Mediterranean.”

It was also emphasized that the Greek Cypriot side's statements legitimizing armament would not change the legal situation.

MECCA JOINT DEFENSE AGREEMENT

The Ministry stated that the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement provides a framework for developing defense and security cooperation between member countries and strengthening common defense capacity and deterrence.

Sources said, "Activities within the scope of the agreement are carried out in line with the joint decisions of the member countries and relevant national processes." He made a statement.

TERRORISTS WHO SURRENDERED

Ministry of National Defense announced that 3 more PKK terrorists surrendered in the last week.

Ministry of National Defense said, "In the last week, 671 people, including 2 members of a terrorist organization, who tried to cross the borders illegally were caught, and 1069 people were prevented before they could cross the border." he said.

Announcing that the number of people caught trying to cross the borders illegally since January 1 is 11 thousand 994, Ministry of National Defense said, "The number of people blocked has reached 51 thousand 338." He made a statement.
