'Justice Watch' Continues Against Cement Factory in Muğla

The local people, who oppose the "Integrated Cement Factory and Raw Material Quarries" project to be established in the Tekağaç location between Bayır in Muğla's Menteşe district and Deştin District in Yatağan district, continue the "Justice Watch" they started in front of the Muğla Administrative Court on Thursday.

Although two separate "EIA positive" decisions were annulled by the Council of State, the Deştin Environmental Platform, Muçep Menteşe Assembly and Bayır Environment Committee, which opposed the project for which an "EIA positive" decision was given for the third time within the scope of the circular numbered 2009/7 of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, declared "We Want Justice for Deştin: Our Vigil in front of the Muğla Administrative Court Continues!" He made a press release titled:

“WE EXPECT THE PUBLIC INTEREST TO BE CONSIDERED”

In the statement, "We, as the life defenders of the people of Deştin and Bayır and Muğla, have brought our struggle against the nature and life killer Integrated Cement Factory, which is wanted to be established in our region, to the door of justice. Our rightful resistance, which we started to protect our air, water and soil, continues today with the same determination as a "Justice Watch" in front of the Muğla Administrative Court. The cement factory to be established will destroy our forests, olive groves and water resources. "It has been proven time and time again by scientific reports, expert examinations and the justified rebellion of the public that it will cause irreversible destruction to our health. We expect the rule of law and the public interest to be observed in the lawsuits we file against irregular EIA decisions that sacrifice nature for the sake of profit."

In the statement reiterating the demands for the Muğla Administrative Court to explain the annulment decision, "We Want the Law to Be on the Side of Nature and Life: While the scientific facts are obvious, we demand that the law not allow the ecological balance of Muğla to be disrupted for the sake of a few companies' greed for profit. Delayed Justice is Nature Massacre: Any actual intervention intended to be made in the field while the judicial process is ongoing causes irreparable harm. We urgently expect the court's final annulment decisions that stand on the side of life and stop the massacre of nature. We Defend Our Constitutional Rights: Article 56 of the Constitution grants us all the "right to live in a healthy and balanced environment". Our vigil in front of the court is not just an objection, but the defense of this constitutional right. We, as those who were born and raised in these lands and want to leave a livable Muğla to their children, expect justice to be served. We will continue our legal struggle in the streets and in front of the Muğla Administrative Court until a decision is made in favor of the people and nature. We will continue to grow with our solidarity on the field. We call on all the people of Muğla, non-governmental organizations, the press and everyone who believes in justice to voice our rightful watch in front of the court and to increase solidarity.
