The search for an opportunity in the job market was what led José Armando, a law student, to participate in an action aimed at employability for people with disabilities, this Monday (21), in Rio Branco.
The action, alluding to the National Day for the Fight of People with Disabilities, celebrated this Monday, aimed to reinforce the importance of promoting professional opportunities and building a more accessible and inclusive job market.
The event, promoted by the Regional Superintendence of Labor and Employment in Acre and the National Employment System of Acre (Sine), took place at the Memorial dos Autonomistas, in the center of Rio Branco.
José has a physical disability and is currently looking for a job. According to him, as he is still a student, it is necessary to look for ways to enter the job market.
"As a person with a disability, I encounter certain difficulties in including myself both in society and in the job market. As it is already a precarious situation in relation to employment, for the disabled person this can double or triple", he stated.

For the student, the action brought hope of obtaining a job opportunity.
"It came as a ray of hope for me, as a young student, I need a job. We wait for [an opportunity] mainly in the administrative area, perhaps an internship, some kind of job. As an unemployed person, I don't want a specific job", he said.
The 2022 Census overview, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), showed that of the more than 830 thousand people who live in Acre, there are more than 60 thousand with disabilities (that is, 7.3% of the population of Acre).
According to the regional superintendent of Labor and Employment in Acre, Leonardo Lani, the task force sought to stimulate the employability of people with disabilities in the state.
“The hiring potential is still far below what is possible, there are only 1.3% of people with disabilities employed within the formal employment market”, he detailed.

Ensure accessibility
According to the superintendent, there are laws prior to the Statute of Persons with Disabilities, such as Law 8,213/1991, which obliges companies with more than 100 employees to have 2 to 5% of their staff occupied by people with disabilities.
"It's not just about offering a job, but also about ensuring accessibility, permanence and opportunities for development. [...] We have to see the principle of equal opportunities and transform this principle into practice. [...] Abilityism prevents the principle of equality, the equality of all that is in article 5 of the Constitution, from being fully implemented", he explained.
According to Lani, since 2021, people with disabilities have received the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC) and, after getting a job, they do not lose the benefit.
"This benefit is replaced by inclusion assistance. They can keep it, they receive half of a minimum wage in addition to their salary. So, I think it is highly advantageous, in addition to the advantages of personal development and relationships that employment also provides", he highlighted.

Combating harassment
Combating harassment and prejudice in work relationships were also addressed during the event.
According to the president of the commission to combat harassment of the Brazilian Bar Association - Sectional Acre (OAB/AC), Hadyme Freitas, it is important to bring this type of discussion to society.
"This discussion is a discussion pertinent to the world of work. Harassment, specifically, has its main repercussions within the world of work. And at the time of this event here, the OAB, [...] brings this expertise and brings this work, through its committees, to discuss the issue of harassment within the work context. When we bring the topic to people with disabilities as well, we have a population group that may be more susceptible to harassment", he said.
