After almost three decades: Many clues about the murder of the “Bierkönig” founder in Mallorca

According to the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office, there are many promising clues about the murder of Manfred Meisel, the founder of the "Beer King" in Mallorca, which has been unsolved for almost 30 years.

The crime was the subject of the ZDF search program “Aktenzeichen XY... International” on Wednesday evening. By midnight, significantly more than 50 tips had been received, a spokesman for the Frankfurt public prosecutor said upon request. They came, among other things, from Meisel's immediate environment at the time.

“There are indications that there may have been shifts in loyalty among witnesses and that there is now a willingness to make further statements,” explained the spokesman. No further information would be provided for tactical reasons.

Three people were shot

Meisel, his eight-year-old son Patrick and the animal keeper Claudia Leisten were shot on the night of November 12, 1997 on Meisel's finca near S'Aranjassa. According to the statement, the perpetrator or perpetrators acted professionally and apparently in a targeted manner. A possible motive is rivalries over Meisel's valuable bird breeding. Connections to organized crime are also possible.

Because Meisel was a German citizen and was registered in Frankfurt am Main before moving to Mallorca, the public prosecutor's office there "has been entrusted with the investigation since the crime happened in parallel with the Spanish murder squad," she said.
