Flood disaster in Nepal: 1342 dead, search and rescue efforts continue

Authorities made a statement about the search and rescue efforts that continued after the flood and the 2 people who were stranded for 10 days.

Accordingly, the Chinese worker trapped in the hydroelectric tunnel in the flood-hit area was rescued. Additionally, a woman in Nuwakot region was rescued in a different operation and transferred to Kathmandu by helicopter.

To date, 1342 people have lost their lives in the flood, and search and rescue efforts are continuing for more than 4 thousand missing people.

Experts point to glacier collapse

It was reported that dozens of bridges were destroyed, roads were damaged and helicopters were dispatched for search and rescue efforts due to the flood that occurred in the Rasuwa region of Nepal on August 26.

The US Geological Survey, which announced that an earthquake first occurred in the region before the flood, updated its data and stated that the source of the 5.2 magnitude seismic movement was glacier collapse.

Experts at the International Mountain Development Center based in Kathmandu stated that the flood occurred due to an avalanche triggered by glacier fragments breaking off from the mountainous area in the region.
