Producers who entered the field in Kaynarca village of Bor district started collecting cabbages after months of labor. The price of grain in the field varies between 40 and 60 TL, depending on the size and quality of the product.
While white cabbage is produced on an area of approximately 25 thousand decares throughout Niğde, between 250 thousand and 300 thousand tons of product is produced annually in the city. The harvested white cabbage is sent to many regions of Turkey as well as the surrounding provinces and meets the consumer. The harvest, which started in the second half of August in Kaynarca village, is expected to continue until the end of the year. The first products of the season find buyers in the field between 40 and 60 lira per grain, depending on their size, leaf structure and quality. Stating that Kaynarca cabbage is in high demand from traders due to its durability, thin leaf structure and long shelf life, Kaynarca Village Headman and cabbage producer Vedat Altınöz said, "We have opened our 2026 cabbage season with good luck. Our harvest starts around the 20th of August and continues until the end of the year. The hot weather has affected the prices a little. Currently, the price in the field is between 40 and 60 liras, depending on the quality of the cabbage."
"WE ARE AMBITIOUS IN TERMS OF TASTE AND AROMA"
Stating that Kaynarca cabbage differs from products grown in other regions with its taste and aroma, Altınöz noted that production in the village has been continued for many years. Altınöz said, "We are assertive in terms of flavour, taste and aroma. Kaynarca cabbage is number one in Turkey for us. We cultivate an area of approximately 25 thousand decares in our village. We produce approximately 300 thousand tons annually. We market our product all over Turkey."
Ata seed has been protected for about 100 years. Stating that one of the most important features that differentiates Kaynarca cabbage is the local seed used in the region, Altınöz said that producers have continued production by preserving their own seeds for about 100 years. Altınöz said, "The wind here is never lacking. This ensures that the cabbage is both strong and has thin leaves. We have been growing our own Ata seed for years. We have been using our own seed for about 100 years, we are not dependent on outsiders. We take care of the cabbage more than the children at home. We have a lot of effort and love."
"SHELF LIFE IS AT LEAST 20 DAYS"
Stating that the cabbage grown in Kaynarca is easy to ship to distant provinces due to its durability, Altınöz stated that the products maintain their freshness for a long time under suitable conditions. Altınöz said, "Our cabbage has a shelf life of at least 20 days. Thanks to its durability, it can be sent to all over Turkey. Our harvest has started. We are waiting for everyone in Niğde's Kaynarca village. Our prices are also affordable."
Trader Sinan Olgun, who came to Kaynarca from Adana and bought cabbage, said that they were satisfied with the product of the region. Olgun said, "The cabbage here is of high quality. Since the producers have achieved good quality, we come here and buy products. We load the cabbage, take it to Adana and sell it there. We are satisfied with Kaynarca cabbage."
