Niners Chemnitz get their first win of the season against Phoenix Hagen after extra time

In the third attempt, the Niners Chemnitz basketball players achieved their first victory of this Bundesliga season. In its home debut, coach Rodrigo Pastore's team defeated promoted team Phoenix Hagen 94:93 (81:81, 39:47) after extra time. Stefan Smith was Chemnitz's best thrower with 23 points and also scored the two decisive free throws 23 seconds before the end of extra time to win.

Two days after the unfortunate defeat in Hamburg (90:94 after extra time), the Chemnitz team started very enthusiastically, but initially had little luck. The more calm Hagen team pulled ahead to 24:17 by the ninth minute. The hosts countered with an 8-0 run to make it 25:24 (12th), but were unable to maintain this level. The Niners found no antidote, especially against Hagen's outstanding American Cameron Krutwig (21 points until halftime).

After the change, the deficit grew to 39:54 (22nd) before a timeout by Pastore woke up the Chemnitz team. They now acted much more aggressively in defense and switched more quickly after winning the ball. A three-pointer from Phlandrous Fleming Jr. made it 74:73 (36th) and gave the Niners their first lead after the break. In the hectic final phase, Krutwig Hagen saved the game into extra time seven seconds before the end of regular time. Things went back and forth there before Smith had the last word.
