After the premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger debuts in theaters starting today, Friday 11 September 2026, also in IMAX format. The film tells the story of the Gallagher brothers' return to the stage and the tormented relationship between Noel and Liam, from the separation in 2009 to the reunion in 2025.
The Oasis reunion hits the big screen. Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger, the documentary dedicated to Noel and Liam Gallagher's reunion, will be released in cinemas starting today, Friday 11 September 2026, in IMAX format. The film, presented as a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, will subsequently also be available on Disney+ by the end of the year.
The two brothers reached the Lido on Saturday 5 September, arriving by boat to accompany the documentary. Noel and Liam posed for photographers and fans, but avoided the traditional press conference. The film traces the history of the band and focuses above all on the conflictual bond between its two leaders.
The reunion after 16 years of separation
Oasis disbanded in 2009, after an argument backstage shortly before a concert in Paris. A spectacular epilogue for one of the most loved bands in British music, also built on the antagonism between Noel and Liam.
Over the years, the two brothers have not held back poisonous statements. Noel had defined Liam as "the angriest man you will ever meet", while the singer had accused his brother of abandoning him and disbanding the group to further his own career.
The documentary follows the path that led to reconciliation. In 2025, after 16 years apart, Oasis returned to perform together with a tour starting from Cardiff, Wales, in front of over 60 thousand people. However, the fear that the reunion could fail, as happened in 2009, did not materialize.
The rehearsals, the concerts and the tensions between the brothers
Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger is part concert film and part account of the relationship between Noel and Liam. The camera moves into rehearsals, showing moments of tension and the atmosphere changing when Liam makes his entrance.
The film contains previously unseen images of the preparations and what, at least at the time of filming, was the first joint interview of the two brothers in 25 years. Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace initially met Noel and Liam separately, then followed them together on tour.
The goal was to tell the real progression of their relationship, without forcing reconciliation. "We wanted to make a film about the reconciliation of two brothers, famous for their unstable relationship, but also about the power of music," explained the directors.
From Definitely Maybe to the new generation
The documentary also reconstructs the Oasis phenomenon, a band born in working-class Manchester in 1991 and which became one of the most popular British groups of the nineties.
The debut, Definitely Maybe, reached number one in the charts in 1994. The following year came (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, which became one of the best-selling albums in UK history.
Many of the group's most famous songs were written by Noel Gallagher, from Wonderwall to Live Forever. The film questions why those songs continue to speak to audiences, not only to those who listened to them in the 1990s, but also to younger generations.
The demand became especially evident with the huge demand for tickets for the reunion tour. During the concerts, songs like Supersonic and Roll With It once again provoked collective chants and intergenerational enthusiasm.
The audience at the center of the story
Alongside the Gallagher brothers, the documentary also follows fans from different countries. The directors tried to make their presence invisible during rehearsals, while in the concerts they wanted to give back the feeling of being in the middle of the audience.
The story also includes small details capable of entering history, such as the chance meeting with a person who called his dog Bonehead, from the nickname of the historic guitarist of Oasis.
The band thus returns to the cinema through its songs, but also through the contradictions of its protagonists: two brothers separated for years by personal conflicts and reunited by the strength of a music that has never stopped living.
