Intentional homicides down 53% in Mexico since the start of the current administration

Intentional homicides in Mexico saw a 53% decline from the beginning of the current administration until the end of August, going from a daily average of 86.9 to 40.8. Marcela Figueroa, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, illustrated the data by explaining that "this decrease is equivalent to 46 fewer malicious homicides per day". The exponent specified that "the actions implemented as part of the national public safety strategy have made it possible to reduce intentional homicide in almost the entire country".

Despite the progress, seven federating entities account for nearly half of total homicides, with Guanajuato topping the list at 8.5%, followed by Baja California and Chihuahua.

However, a comparison between the first eight months of 2025 and the same period of the current year shows a reduction in lethal crime in 30 states. The positive trend extends to high-impact crimes, which decreased overall by 39% in the two years of government.

Other types of crimes also show a significant decline. Violent vehicle thefts fell by 54%, while drops were recorded for kidnappings (26.3%), violent robberies (16.3%) and feminicides (5.2%). "The trend observed is visibly downward", concluded Figueroa, highlighting how the August just ended is the month with the lowest values ​​of the entire historical series analysed.
