Murder in Udine: 61-year-old killed with screwdriver, fugitive killer chased away

The man who killed another 61-year-old man last night in Udine with a screwdriver is still on the run. The wanted man is a 32-year-old of Moroccan origins who, after attacking his compatriot, fled on foot, losing track of himself.

According to the reconstruction of the investigators, the victim was returning home in Via Castions with shopping bags when he was surprised by the killer who was waiting for him hidden behind a hedge. Multiple stab wound marks were found on the body of the 61-year-old and a bloody screwdriver, a possible murder weapon, was found on the ground next to the body and seized by the police.

Died in hospital

Rescue was immediate but the victim was already in critical condition: the 118 health workers provided initial treatment and urgently transported him to the hospital where the man's condition worsened and he died shortly after arrival. The carabinieri of the provincial command, the soldiers of the scientific investigations department and the deputy prosecutor Letizia Puppa intervened at the scene of the murder.

Revenge

The motive for the murder would be revenge linked to personal issues between the fugitive and the victim's sister: the 32-year-old, according to initial hypotheses, had had a relationship with the woman who, however, a month ago, had decided to end the relationship. However, as the 38-year-old herself told investigators, the man did not accept the end of the story and put pressure on her. Three days before the crime he had also shown up at the woman's workplace to meet her and, when she refused, he had threatened her with death. The investigators, who are acquiring any images from the video surveillance cameras and collecting testimonies, are also verifying an episode that occurred yesterday, when the car of another relative of the woman was damaged.
