Father mourns death of 15-year-old teenager shot while playing with friends in Paracambi: 'I'll never see him again'

Daniel Antunes da Rocha, aged 15, died after being shot in the head in Paracambi, Baixada Fluminense. The father mourned the loss of the young man.

The case occurred inside a property in the Sabugo community. Daniel was rescued, but he succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to the hospital.

Military police carried out searches in the region, but found no weapons or suspects. During the investigation, the Civil Police collected ammunition, cell phones and a projectile.

The father, Flávio Batista, believes the shooting was accidental. He reported that his son and a friend found a gun while playing.

The teenager wanted to be a football player. The father lamented the loss: "A silly joke that ended my son's life."

"It's difficult for us, a 15-year-old boy to lose his life like that. His family is suffering a lot. My son Daniel, who I love very much. My football player, I'll never see him again."

The outburst comes from Flávio Batista, father of Daniel Antunes da Rocha, a 15-year-old teenager who died after being shot in the head, in Paracambi, Baixada Fluminense. Amidst the pain, the family tries to understand what happened and how an episode that, according to the father, started as a joke ended in tragedy.

Daniel lived with his parents in the Fábrica neighborhood. He was shot on the afternoon of [day], inside a property at the back of a house in the community of Sabugo.

According to information from the Military Police, residents called the police, who went to the address. The property owner reported that she was not home and said that the space where the teenager was found was often frequented by her son and friends.

Daniel received first aid and was taken to the Lages Municipal Hospital. He was then transferred to the Adão Pereira Nunes Hospital, in Duque de Caxias, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Military police officers who responded to the incident tried to obtain information from community residents, but no one could explain how the shooting happened. Agents searched the area, but found no weapons or suspects.

During the investigation, civil police officers collected three .40 caliber ammunition, two cell phones and a projectile.

The father said that Daniel was accompanied by a friend before he was shot. For Flávio, the shooting may have been accidental. According to the version that reached the family, the teenagers had found a gun while playing inside the house.

"What the family knows is that it was an accident, right? It wasn't intentional. They were playing, they found a gun. They were playing inside a house and the gun went off. Unfortunately, it injured my son in the head," he reported.

Daniel's body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) in Nova Iguaçu. The case is being investigated by the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station, which seeks to clarify the circumstances of the shooting.

In addition to the pain of losing his son, Flávio remembers the dreams that Daniel will no longer be able to fulfill. The teenager wanted to be a football player and supported Flamengo.

Last month he received a top scorer trophy after scoring 18 goals. According to his father, Daniel was very loved in Paracambi.

"His dream was to be a football player, to play for Flamengo. He won a trophy last month as top scorer with 18 goals. My son was very loved within Paracambi. We are suffering a lot. A silly joke that ended my son's life", he lamented.
