Palermo, 15 convictions for a total of 189 years in prison in the trial of the Villaseta and Porto Empedocle clans

Fifteen convictions for a total of 189 years in prison and two acquittals. This is the sentence pronounced by the investigating judge of the Palermo court Nicoletta Frasca in the abbreviated trial on one of the lines of the investigation of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate into the clans of Villaseta and Porto Empedocle, in the Agrigento area.

The heaviest sentences

The heaviest sentences, 20 years each, were imposed on James Burgio, Gaetano Licata and Salvatore Prestia. Also sentenced to 18 years and 8 months were Salvatore Lombardo, Pietro Capraro to 17 years and 2 months, Simone Sciortino to 15 years and 8 months, Vincenzo Iacono to 12 years and 10 months, Salvatore Carlino to 12 years and 4 months, Stefano Fragapane to 12 years, Cristian Terrana to 11 years and 4 months, Alessandro Calogero Trupia to 9 years and 4 months, Antonio Crapa at 8 years and 8 months, Agostino Marrali at 6 years and Andrea Sottile and Antonio Guida at 3 years each.

Drug trafficking, extortion and intimidation

The prosecutors of the Palermo DDA Claudio Camilleri, Giorgia Righi and Luisa Bettiol had requested fifteen sentences for a total of 192 years and 8 months. According to the accusation, the mafia groups controlled drug trafficking and extortion and were also responsible for damage and intimidation. Among the episodes reconstructed in the investigation were shots fired at two commercial businesses. Burgio and Prestia are indicated by the prosecution as top exponents of the Porto Empedocle clan, while Capraro and Licata would have had a central role in the Villaseta mafia family.
