Developing high-quality human resources, science - technology, innovation and digital transformation create motivation for the locality to develop quickly and sustainably, according to leaders of Dong Thap province.
At the opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 school year of Dong Thap University, on the morning of September 5, Mr. Phan Van Thang, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, emphasized the need to innovate education and training linked to practice, strengthening links between training facilities, businesses, institutes and schools.
According to Mr. Thang, Dong Thap is moving towards smart, ecological agriculture with high added value; Industry and services have the ability to receive and master new technology. To meet this requirement, the province needs to build a generation of Dong Thap people with knowledge, skills, bravery, personality and desire to rise.
The province identifies high-quality human resources, science - technology, innovation and digital transformation as driving forces and strategic breakthroughs. Specifically, by 2030, Dong Thap sets a target of at least 82.5% of trained workers, of which 43.5% or more of workers have diplomas and certificates.
With new development requirements, Dong Thap University has been identified by the province as a place to train high-quality human resources, especially in fields and fields specializing in science and technology; become a center for entrepreneurship and transfer and application of science and technology topics to serve socio-economic development.
Mr. Thang requested authorities at all levels to concretize policies with practical coordination mechanisms and programs; Strengthen connections between schools and agencies, units, localities, businesses and the community. The province needs to proactively order and coordinate research, transfer and application of solutions in education and agriculture.
"Training must be linked to human resource needs," Mr. Thang said, and suggested expanding internship and experience opportunities for students, supporting research and startups to create practical results and products for the province and the Mekong Delta region.
For Dong Thap University, provincial leaders proposed to continue to innovate, promote scientific research, technology transfer, and prioritize fields associated with the development requirements of the province and the Mekong Delta region.
In addition, the school is recommended to promote digital transformation, artificial intelligence application, and develop training, research, internship, and startup programs related to real needs. Research space needs to create conditions for lecturers, scientists and students to solve specific local problems.
After more than 50 years of building and developing the tradition of teacher training, more than 20 years of developing in a multidisciplinary university model, Dong Thap University currently trains 3 doctoral majors, 21 master's majors, 58 undergraduate majors, with nearly 20,000 full-time students.
The teaching staff has 100% postgraduate qualifications, including one professor, 22 associate professors and 217 doctors. The rate of students having jobs after 12 months of graduation is over 90%. The school also cooperates with more than 60 international organizations and universities.
In the new school year, the school continues to implement the motto "Creating knowledge - Serving the community", taking learners as the center, quality as the foundation, the team as the core resource and innovation as the driving force for development.
Dr. Truong Tan Dat, Principal of Dong Thap University, said that the school will continue to promote genuine digital transformation, improve the quality of training, scientific research and community service, building a professional, humane, safe and inspirational academic environment.
According to Principal Dat, the position of a university is not only reflected in its scale or achievement numbers, but more importantly the quality of its learners, the value of knowledge created, its innovation capacity and practical contributions to the community, region and country.
