Vice President Vance attacked Democratic congressional candidate El-Sayed

Vice President Vance attacked Democratic congressional candidate El-Sayed, after this person mentioned the Second Lady in a sarcastic post.

"Say whatever you want, Abdul El-Sayed, but don't mention my wife's name, because she is on a completely different level than you," US Vice President JD Vance said on August 31 at a campaign organized by the super political action committee MAGA in Michigan.

El-Sayed is the Democratic candidate in the race to win the congressional seat representing Michigan in the US Senate. El-Sayed's opponent is Republican Mike Rogers, backed by Mr. Vance.

According to the Wall Street Journal, this is Mr. Vance's harshest and most direct attack on El-Sayed. El-Sayed is Muslim and has mentioned Usha Vance, the Vice President's wife, in statements related to Mr. Vance. Mrs. Usha is Hindu, whose parents are immigrants from India.

Mr. Vance in early August criticized El-Sayed when the Democratic candidate said that efforts to ban Sharia Islamic law were rooted in white supremacist ideology. The US Vice President said he wished he could go back in time to talk to his grandfather, whom Vance often calls by the nickname "Papaw".

"That's not the Democratic Party Papaw knows, folks," Mr. Vance said.

"I wonder if JD plans to take Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw...", El-Sayed responded on social network X on August 22.

Vice President Vance said on August 31 that he was especially sensitive to these comments because Ms. Usha just gave birth to her fourth child at the end of July. When interviewed on Fox News last week, Usha said El-Sayed's comments only made her laugh.

"It's true that I have never met JD's grandparents. But I know and love the children they raised, including his mother, aunt and uncle. They have always given me boundless affection and love," the Second Lady shared.

Mr. Vance on August 31 also accused El-Sayed of having divisive ideology, saying that this candidate's views are "the source of the terrible evil that is rising in America."

The US Vice President said that Michigan voters need to choose who will fight for the rights of all people of this state. He implied El-Sayed was paying more attention to members of the Muslim community than voters from other groups.

El-Sayed rejected Mr. Vance's accusations, saying that President Donald Trump's administration and the Republican party are the ones causing bad things.
