US President Donald Trump on August 30 attacked female journalist Kristen Welker on the social network Truth Social, calling her the "unpopular host" of Meet the Press, a famous NBC talk show.

The president objected to Welker's assertion that he only had "mixed results" when supporting candidates in the Republican primary. Mr. Trump claimed that 98-100% of the candidates he supported won these races.

In an interview with a local station under the NBC system on the morning of August 30, female journalist Welker said that President Trump would "cast a shadow" over the midterm elections. Welker said that Mr. Trump "achieved inconsistent results" with the candidates in the race, but also pointed out that senator Darline Graham, who was supported by the President, won in the primary election.

President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Welker's assessment, threatening that she would be complained to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to "suffer reprimand or punishment" for "intentionally posting inaccurate information". The FCC is the agency that issues and supervises licenses to use radio and television broadcasting frequencies in the United States.

"She is not the only one. The radical left is finding every way to harass, degrade and defame anything related to Trump," the US President added.

Welker is a journalist who received praise from both the Republican and Democratic parties after moderating the 2020 presidential debate between Mr. Trump and Mr. Joe Biden. In that election, Mr. Trump lost to his Democratic opponent.

An anonymous NBC News spokesperson defended Welker after she was attacked by the President. "Kristen is one of the best in her profession and we fully support her," the spokesperson said.

Overall, Mr. Trump's support has given Republican candidates running for state offices an advantage. However, his support rate has dropped, and according to Ballotpedia's statistics, at least 10 candidates he backed failed in this election process.

Since becoming president, Mr. Trump seems to have had a fierce confrontation with the press. He sued several newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, and ordered cuts to federal funding for public media agencies.
