Civil Police investigate scams in hotel reservations in Fernando de Noronha

The Civil Police of Paraíba carried out five search and seizure warrants this Thursday (10), during a joint operation with the Civil Police of Pernambuco to investigate scams carried out against tourists who purchased travel packages and hotel reservations for Fernando de Noronha. There were three warrants in João Pessoa and two in Campina Grande.

According to the investigation, the suspects created fake websites using the names of existing hotels on the island and a structure similar to the official pages. The victims made reservations and believed that their accommodation was confirmed, but only discovered the scam when they arrived in Fernando de Noronha.

So far, however, the investigation indicates that the people found at the addresses in Paraíba may have been victims of the group. According to the Civil Police, their data would have been improperly used to register legal entities.

The operation is coordinated by the Civil Police of Pernambuco, through the Piedade Police Station, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, and was supported by the Civil Police of Paraíba. In addition to Paraíba, warrants were also served in Fernando de Noronha.
