Dog is run over by cyclist in Campo Novo do Parecis and remains hospitalized without being able to walk

A security camera recorded the moment when a young man on a bicycle ran over a dog, apparently on purpose, in Campo Novo do Parecis, 397 km from Cuiabá. The animal, named Luna, was rescued this Wednesday (9) with signs of injury and needed to be hospitalized for tests.

In the images, the dog appears lying in the street when the cyclist approaches on his bicycle and hits the animal. After being run over, the dog crawls across the street and ends up on the sidewalk (video above).

According to Loraine Wille, responsible for the rescue, Luna underwent an X-ray this Thursday morning (11), which showed no fractures. Despite this, the dog cannot move her back legs and needs to drag them to move around.

"An X-ray was taken of her earlier today, which did not show any fracture. Although she is not able to walk on her back legs, she is just dragging. So there is probably an injury there, but she has not yet seen a specialist to make a diagnosis", he said.

Loraine said that Luna was found close to the place where she was allegedly run over.

"The first time I went and I couldn't find her. I even got out of the car, saw other dogs there and asked a man and a boy who were in the area of ​​the house about the dog. They said they didn't know anything", he reported.

Afterwards, Loraine kept in touch with animal protectors who were helping with the rescue and received information that Luna would be in the same house where she had previously looked.

"When we arrived at the house for the second time, the dog was there. And then Lauren said: 'Look, I came to rescue you, right? She's going to be taken care of, she's going to be treated'. They didn't object at any time," he said.

As Luna remains hospitalized, Loraine informed that a crowdfunding was created to help pay for veterinary treatment. According to her, people who want to contribute can participate in the campaign by looking for those responsible.

The case was forwarded to the municipal delegate to investigate possible mistreatment of the animal. The suspect in the hit-and-run had not been identified until the last update of this report.
