Military police officer dies after being run over after criminals break through blockade on Via Light

Corporal Jefté dos Santos do Bonfim, 38 years old, was in a vehicle that blocked the road after a warning about vehicle theft. Four suspects were arrested nearby.

PM corporal Jefté dos Santos do Bonfim died after being run over by criminals this Wednesday (16). The suspects broke through a police blockade on Via Light.

Agents were blocking the road because of a robbery. The driver disobeyed the order to stop, hitting the vehicle and the police officer.

Four suspects were arrested nearby and the case remains under investigation. The police officer had been with the force for 10 years.

A military police officer died after being run over by criminals who broke through a blockade on Via Light, near the Center of Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense, on Wednesday night (16). Corporal Jefté dos Santos do Bonfim, 38 years old, also had the vehicle he was in hit by the suspects.

According to the Military Police, agents from the Expressway Police Battalion (BPVE) were on the road after receiving information about a vehicle theft. The police had reduced the space for cars to pass in one of the lanes.

When the vehicle with the suspects approached, Jephthah ordered the driver to stop. The group did not obey, hit the vehicle and hit the police officer.

The corporal was taken to the Nova Iguaçu General Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.

Four suspects were arrested near Via Light. One of them was shot in the leg. The incident was forwarded to the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station (DHBF).

Jephthah had been in the Military Police for 10 years and was single. There is still no information about the place and time of the burial.
