A policewoman fatally wounded a 44-year-old man with a knife. There are new findings

Agnieszka Adamska-Okońska, spokeswoman for the Bydgoszcz District Prosecutor's Office, announced on Monday the preliminary findings after the police intervention in Bydgoszcz.

The prosecutor's office is analyzing the evidence collected so far. On the night from Sunday to Monday, the prosecutor on duty worked on site. The body and the scene of the incident were examined and witnesses were interviewed.

Officers from the Police Internal Affairs Bureau and the control departments of city and provincial headquarters joined the case.

Prosecutor Adamska-Okońska emphasized that the collected evidence is being analyzed. An investigation will be initiated into the case.

Everything indicates that the conduct of the proceedings will be entrusted to someone other than the Bydgoszcz-Południe District Prosecutor's Office. It's about maintaining impartiality, and Bydgoszcz prosecutors and police officers cooperate with each other on a daily basis.

Spokesperson of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz, junior inspector. Monika Chlebicz informed that according to the findings so far, there was no pointless use of weapons during the intervention. Like the spokeswoman of the prosecutor's office, she emphasized that these were preliminary conclusions.

Action on the Błonie estate

The incident took place late on Sunday evening in the Błonie housing estate in Bydgoszcz. The police were called because a man was mutilating himself in one of the tenement houses. The officers who arrived at the scene called for more patrols because they found an aggressive man holding a knife.

After some time, the action moved outside the building. At one point, the 44-year-old moved towards the police with a knife in his hand. The intervening officer fired one shot from her weapon, wounding the aggressor.
