Protest from drivers in Poland: Major disruptions in train services

According to the news of Poland's public broadcaster TVP World, drivers across Poland are driving trains at 20 kilometers per hour at level crossings as part of the protest they started.

As of 07:00 local time, only 70 percent of the trains were running on time, while 14 train services were canceled.

PKP PLK, Poland's state-owned railway infrastructure operator, announced that total train delays exceeded 5 thousand minutes as of 08:00.

PKP Intercity, Poland's main long-distance train operator, stated that at 06.45, 47 of its 140 trains were delayed, the total delay time was 1225 minutes and the average delay per train was 26 minutes.

Leszek Mietek, President of the Polish Railway Machinists' Union, warned in his statement that the protest would cause delays and said, "It is better for these delays to happen one day rather than more people dying on Polish railways."

The unions stated that they expect "concrete decisions and real actions" from the government. The machinists' protest is expected to end in the afternoon.

On September 9, one person died and 20 people were injured when a passenger train and a truck collided at a level crossing in Poland.
