Port of Livorno: maxi seizure of 53 kilos of pure cocaine

New anti-drug operation in the port of Livorno, now included in the destination routes to Europe by organized crime. 53 kilos of pure cocaine were seized, divided into 45 blocks with a value of approximately 20 million euros. A few days after another significant drug seizure, when 65 kg of cocaine were seized in a load of bananas, the staff of the Customs and Monopolies Agency and the financiers of the Provincial Command of Livorno have therefore dealt another blow to drug trafficking.

The continuous risk analysis activity, as stated in a joint note from Customs and the Financial Police, carried out on goods entering the Tuscan port, has raised suspicions about a container containing fruit embarked on a motor ship coming from Peru. Therefore, the financiers of the Livorno Group and the staff of the Anti-fraud Section of the Livorno Customs Office first scanned the container with equipment in use at the Customs and, after noticing something inside, proceeded to empty and dismantle the engine compartment where the blocks of drugs had been crammed. The activities were coordinated by the Livorno prosecutor's office. The close synergy, resources and experience put in place by the Customs and Monopolies Agency and the Fiamme Gialle of Livorno were fundamental through a daily and methodical action carried out on a random basis on containers and goods arriving from South America and in transit from the port of Livorno.

The narcotic, after having been sampled and analyzed by the Customs Agency Laboratory, at the order of the prosecutor's office, will be destroyed in an incinerator and thus removed from the drug dealers where, at the final sale, it would have brought in approximately 20 million euros to criminals.
