Q8 Italia introduces a price cap on fuel, the government confirms price monitoring

"Q8 Italia, accepting the invitation of the Italian government, will apply a price cap on petrol and diesel, confirming its commitment to supporting consumers". This can be read in a company note according to which "the price cap will last 30 days starting from October 1st and is aimed at generating tangible benefits for motorists".

"The price ceiling will be applied with a modular approach, consistent with the different realities that make up the Company's distribution system. Q8 Italia will appropriately support managers and partners to guarantee the economic sustainability of the entire supply chain".

"I thank Kuwait and the group that controls the Q8 plants in Italy for having accepted the Italian Government's appeal addressed to energy companies in order to calm the price of fuel. After the choice of Eni and Socar, today another important signal of attention to Italian families arrives from Q8". Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated this in a statement.

The EU: 'No comment on Eni, we monitor the markets against anti-competitive moves'

"We have no specific comments to make on individual developments in Italy. What we can say, from a more general point of view, is that both the Commission and the national competition authorities constantly monitor markets, including "energy" markets, in particular to verify whether there is potential anti-competitive behavior that should be prosecuted by our services. This is precisely to ensure that consumers can have a choice, a free choice and in competitive conditions". This was said by a Commission spokesperson when asked about fuel cuts in Eni and IP service stations during the daily meeting with the press.

Mimit: 'Prices falling'

Meanwhile, the average fuel prices are already falling this morning, 29 September, after the decision of Eni and Ip to put a limit on the price of self-service: the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy announces that, based on the latest data collected by the Observatory on fuel prices, today the average price of fuel in 'self-service' mode along the national road network is equal to 2.126 euros per liter for petrol (2.152 the price yesterday) and 2.335 euros per liter for diesel (2.369 yesterday). On the motorway network the average self-service price is 2.180 euros per liter for petrol (2.214 yesterday) and 2.383 euros per liter for diesel (it was 2.420 yesterday).

Il Mase: 'Tax discounts on diesel until 5 October, then mobile excise duties'

"The tax discounts on diesel will continue until 5 October, after which action will be taken on the cost of fuel with the mobile excise duty mechanism, in ways that will be evaluated at the time. The government has said several times that it wants to abandon generalized discounts and move on to targeted measures for the most affected categories". Sources from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security told ANSA.

The current tax discount on diesel will last until and including October 5th. Afterwards, Prime Minister Meloni announced that there will still be aid, with the mobile excise duty mechanism. The government has said several times that it wants to abandon general discounts and move on to targeted measures for the most affected categories. "At the moment the mobile excise duties, as they are constructed, have an automatic reversal on everything, then as we go along we will see -, Minister Pichetto further said -. Naturally I hope that they reopen Hormuz and that the game is closed, even if not completely, because it will take some time before we return to a normal condition".

Assoutenti: 'Q8 is fine but indicate the actual discount and how long it will last'

Q8's decision to cut price lists is good for Assoutenti, but it is important at this stage to clearly indicate what the economic benefits will be for motorists, how much prices will actually drop at distributors and whether all plants will adapt to the measure. This was stated by the consumer association, following the note from the oil company.

"The price cuts implemented by Eni, Ip and Q8 unequivocally demonstrate what we have always supported since the beginning of the emergency: oil companies have ample margin to bring down prices by giving up part of their enormous profits - explains president Gabriele Melluso - It is important, however, to clearly indicate the extent of the discounts at the pump to guarantee transparency for motorists, make the real economic benefits immediately understood and allow distributors to make informed choices". "Also considering the strong growth in fuel prices recorded from February to today, we believe that price caps and discounts cannot last just 30 days, but must be extended until the end of the year - continues Melluso - This is also because the situation in the Middle East continues to be critical and oil prices do not seem destined to fall in the short term".
