Renovation of the A2 motorway in autumn. There will be narrowings and sectional speed measurements

This information means that when leaving and returning from holidays in the second half of August, drivers will continue to drive on the A2 motorway as before.

However, in the fall, the road of the A2 motorway between the Łódź Północ junction and the Konotopa junction is to be narrowed to two lanes in each direction.

There will be a speed limit of 70 kilometers per hour and - as determined by an RMF FM reporter - there will be a new sectional speed measurement.

Renovation is necessary

Road workers explain that renovation is necessary. The highway must be widened because it is losing capacity. On one day, over a hundred thousand cars pass between Łódź and Warsaw.

Additionally, it is to be one of the main access routes to the planned new, largest airport in the country, i.e. Port Polska in Baranów, between Łódź and Warsaw.

The first planes, according to the government program, are to land there at the end of 2032.

Contract signed, four-month buffer

According to the information our reporter obtained from the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, on June 26, a contract was signed for the renovation of the first section of the A2 Grodzisk Mazowiecki - Konotopa motorway. The temporary traffic organization project has already been developed.

According to the assumptions for the entire investment, the contractor who signed the first contract will correct the existing traffic organization at intersections and junctions and designate detours for the expansion of the entire route.

Therefore, we have provided a four-month buffer between the first contract and the commencement of work on the main A2 route, i.e. directly on the motorway roads - you can read in the response our journalist received.

Preparatory work has already started. At the end of July, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways handed over the construction site for the first six junctions and intersections to the contractor, where corrections require construction work (apart from the main road, without any difficulties for drivers).

The reconstruction covers:

Wiskitki junction,

Warszawa Zachód junction,

Opacz junction,

Mszczonów Północ junction,

Sochaczew – intersection of DK92, DK50 and DW705,

Sochaczew – intersection of DK92 and DK50.

In the remaining nine locations, the scope of work will be limited to adjustments to traffic lights.

Subsequent contractors will be able to start work immediately on the roadways, as soon as the work related to the correct designation of detours is completed.
