New tram line in Krakow: Will it be ready on August 31?

According to the contract, August 31 is the day when the new line should be available to passengers. All works are to be completed on that day, and the District Construction Supervision Inspector should issue an occupancy permit for the investment. The contractor, Gülermak, maintains that it will be completed on time. However, the city is preparing for the possibility of a delay. For several weeks, following pressure from the city on the Gülermak company carrying out the investment, there has been a noticeable acceleration of work and an increase in the number of employees involved. Analyzing the actual progress of work, the acceptance documents held and experience from other similar investments, it estimates that it will not be possible to meet the declared deadline. Based on this analysis, the realistic date for completing the works and obtaining the first day of accessibility is mid-September, says Jarosław Tabor, director of the Road Administration of the City of Krakow. Penalties for delay The city makes it clear: if the contractor does not complete the work by August 31, contractual penalties will be charged from September 1 - as much as PLN 50,000 for each day of delay. Safety first The Road Authority of the City of Krakow does not intend to take over the investment if it is not fully ready and safe. Even if it means delaying the launch of the new tram line. “Quality and safety are more important to us than the deadline,” assure city representatives.
