Lawyers of the family of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, who disappeared in Van on September 27, 2024 and whose body was found on the lake shore on October 15, 2024, stated that they submitted their new demands regarding the investigation into the incident to the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Family lawyers Abdurrahman Karabulut and Şahin Cangüleç met with Rojin Kabaiş's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, and members of the press at a hotel in the city.
Providing information about the stage reached in the investigation, Karabulut said that an effective investigation was carried out regarding their demands during their meeting with the prosecutor's office.
Stating that they have applied to the prosecutor's office on approximately 30 issues since July 10, Karabulut said, "Except for 2-3 requests, all our other applications have been accepted and research continues within this framework. Some of them have been concluded, and research on some of them continues." he said.
Stating that they also requested research on marine vehicles, Karabulut said:
"An examination was made on all land vehicles. A determination was made on 7 thousand 353 vehicles through the License Plate Recognition System (PTS) and cameras. Therefore, we requested that the PTS records be re-examined from the day he disappeared until the day he was found, to identify these drivers, to seize the mobile phones of the drivers, to obtain the HTS and base records of their phones and to take DNA samples. Our request in this regard has also been accepted."
Stating that one of their demands was to conduct an investigation on the route between the places where Rojin disappeared and where she was found, Karabulut said, "The place where she disappeared is Bardakçı District, the place where she was found is Mollakasım Çarpanak Island. We asked for DNA analysis to be carried out on all the villages in that line and on the materials found. As you know, Rojin's slippers have not been found yet, the studies are continuing. We wrote a memorandum to the META company, to which WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook companies are affiliated. We asked for the detection of correspondence regarding these. The response to the memorandum." "He came and asked for a more detailed warrant. The prosecutor's office wrote a detailed letter on this issue, and we are waiting for the answer." he said.
Stating that they also requested the files of people involved in criminal or sexual crimes in Bardakçı and Mollakasım neighborhoods, Karabulut continued his speech as follows:
"After these people were identified, we asked for their HTS and base records. We wanted to determine whether they were there on the date of the incident. The prosecutor's office accepted our request and the investigations regarding this are still continuing. There is a cake, headphones, a keychain, a plastic bottle and a mobile phone that Rojin left or was left on the beach. A fingerprint examination was carried out on these, but a fingerprint examination was not carried out on the phone, we requested again regarding this."
HE MEETED ME 15 MINUTES BEFORE HE DISAPPEARED AND THEN CLOSED HIS ACCOUNTS
Stating that they had findings about a person, Karabulut said:
"In his statement, the person says that he was not at that place, but in the report we have, we determined that he was in the same time and place zone at the time of Rojin's disappearance, with his latitude and longitude. Disclosing his name at this stage would harm the investigation. We have made a request to date about whether Rojin was at that place, and our request has been accepted. We also filed a criminal complaint against the person who met Rojin 15 minutes before she disappeared, received a signal from the same base, and subsequently closed his Instagram account. We requested that he be taken into custody. "The expert report is valuable. It determines what minute and time Rojin was on the phone. He reported that there was serious activity on the same night and on the camera records of others."
Lawyer Cangüleç said that DNA studies have been carried out on 415 people so far, but no data has been found.
Cangüleç said, "There is a list of 50 people identified by the prosecutor's office, their identities have been determined. Their DNA will also be examined. In the expert report we have, we found that there are 4 different people with the same name. 3 of them do not seem likely suspects because they are public personnel who provide base stations at different points and worked in different provinces and districts at that time. The first information received by the prosecutor's office is in this direction. There is another person we find suspicious because we have not been able to reach his information so far. The result of the investigation about him is also awaited." he said.
