Russian attack on Kyiv: 15 dead and dozens injured

The services carry out operations mainly in the Sołomansk district of Kiev. Rescuers are dismantling damaged ceilings of a multi-story residential building and securing structures that pose a threat to residents of neighboring buildings.

"The number of deaths in the capital as a result of the night attack increased to 15 people, and another 39 people were injured," DSNS reported in the Telegram messenger.

More than 600 emergency services and police officers were involved in the operation in Kiev, Brovary and Boryspil, said the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Damaged houses, school and children's hospital

According to Zelensky, Russian shelling damaged 30 residential buildings in Kiev and the Kiev Oblast. Damage was also reported at a high school, a children's hospital and a kindergarten.

Russia was to use 168 drones and missiles of various types in the attack, carried out on the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

The president emphasized that Ukrainian air defenses shot down all Kalibr cruise missiles launched by Russia. He added that the overall effectiveness against Russian cruise missiles was 93%, and the defense also neutralized a significant part of the drones.

"Ballistic missiles are the greatest threat"

Zelensky emphasized that Russian ballistic missiles remain the most serious threat to Ukraine. Their effective interception depends on the supply of ammunition to Patriot systems.

And this depends entirely on the supply of missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine, and therefore on our country's partners, said the Ukrainian president.

Earlier, the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, reported at least 12 dead and 33 injured. Due to the attack, Friday is to be a day of mourning in the Ukrainian capital.
