Russia claims to have shot down more than 1,100 Ukrainian drones in the largest attack on Moscow in history

Russia claims that tonight it has shot down at least 1,100 drones launched by Ukraine over its territory, 450 over Moscow. This represents the "largest attack in history" against the Russian capital, according to the city's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.

In addition to Moscow, drones have been detected over the Crimean peninsula and the waters of the Black Sea.

The attacks on Moscow have caused at least two deaths and several injuries. In addition, they left a visible fire in a refinery that illuminated the sky of the capital, as reported by the Russian agency TASS and the governor of the Moscow Region, Andrey Vorobyob, who did not specify the total number of victims.

"In Sofyino, a drone hit a three-story apartment building, damaging six apartments on the upper floor. Unfortunately, a 44-year-old woman died," Vorobyev wrote. "Another person died in the municipality of Orekhovo-Zuevo. An elderly man was in a house that was destroyed and burned as a result of the drone attack," the governor said.

The major attack occurred on the third and final day of voting in Russia's first wartime parliamentary elections, elections virtually devoid of opposition to President Vladimir Putin's policies and that will almost certainly strengthen the Kremlin's dominance.
