Russia and Egypt Discuss Gulf Crisis and Bilateral Cooperation at UN General Assembly

MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty exchanged views on the crisis in the Persian Gulf region, stressing the importance of restoring lasting and sustainable peace through political and diplomatic means, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following their meeting on the sidelines of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly’s 81st session.

"The sides held an in-depth exchange of views on the crisis in the Persian Gulf region caused by the unprovoked aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran. Both sides stressed the importance of restoring lasting and sustainable peace in the region through political and diplomatic means. They reaffirmed the need for and importance of continuing close foreign policy coordination between Moscow and Cairo, including at the UN and other international platforms," the ministry said.

Lavrov and Abdelatty also discussed the need to maintain the strong momentum of political dialogue and expand trade and economic cooperation. "During the conversation, the sides reviewed the most significant issues of multifaceted Russian-Egyptian cooperation, with an emphasis on maintaining the strong momentum of political dialogue, expanding trade and economic cooperation and implementing major bilateral infrastructure projects. The ministers also discussed preparations for upcoming joint events," the ministry concluded.
