380 TL water claim in Sabiha Gökçen is on the agenda of the Parliament

New Path Party Group Deputy Chairman and Muğla Deputy Selçuk Özdağ brought the claim that a plastic bottle of water was sold for 380 TL at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport to the agenda of the Parliament.

Özdağ asked the Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat whether there was an inspection regarding the high prices applied at airports, bus terminals and rest facilities on highway routes.

In his parliamentary question submitted to the Presidency of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Özdağ stated that the allegations in question created a public reaction and that there are serious question marks regarding the prevalence of exorbitant price practices in areas where citizens have to use them or where alternative shopping opportunities are limited.

Özdağ asked Minister Bolat whether the allegations that water was sold for 380 TL at Sabiha Gökçen Airport were examined by the Ministry and whether the sales price in question was considered exorbitant.

HE ASKED ABOUT THE PRICES AT THE AIRPORT AND HIGHWAYS

In his proposal, Selçuk Özdağ asked whether a special price inspection was implemented for basic food and beverage products in airports, bus terminals, rest facilities on highway routes and similar areas, what was the frequency of inspections of the Ministry in these areas and the number of inspections carried out in the last year.

Özdağ also asked whether there is a maximum price, reference price or similar regulation that will protect the consumer from exorbitant prices for water, bread, milk, ayran and similar basic consumption products in places where access to basic necessities is mandatory and alternative sales points are limited, and brought up whether the Ministry has any work on this issue.

Özdağ also asked whether cost and sales price comparisons were made to determine whether the high prices applied at airports, bus terminals and recreational facilities could be explained by rent, operating costs or other reasons, and what criteria were used if the prices were determined to be exorbitant.
