São Paulo records 198.2 mm of rain in September, the fourth highest volume since 1943

Capital accumulated 198.2 mm of rain in September, the 4th highest volume since 1943; Sunday should be rainy, with temperatures between 14ºC and 16ºC.

São Paulo recorded the highest rainfall in 24 hours in the country between Friday (11) and Saturday (12). The volume makes this September the fourth wettest since 1943.

The Mirante de Santana station recorded 75.4 mm in the period. The monthly accumulated reached 198.2 mm, second only to January 2026.

Colonel Araújo Monteiro stated: "Prevention is what saves lives." The forecast indicates rainy weather for this Sunday (13).

São Paulo recorded the highest accumulated rainfall in 24 hours in all of Brazil between Friday (11) and Saturday (12), and the volume made September 2026 enter the ranking of the rainiest months in the capital since the beginning of the historical series, in 1943, according to Civil Defense.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) meteorological station at Mirante de Santana, in the North Zone, recorded 75.4 millimeters of rain between 9am on Friday and 9am this Saturday. According to Inmet, it was the highest volume accumulated in 24 hours recorded in the country during the period.

With the rain, the September accumulation at Mirante de Santana reached 198.2 mm by 9 am this Saturday. The volume already makes September the second rainiest month of 2026 in the season, behind only January, which accumulated 256.4 mm.

The 198.2 mm recorded so far places September 2026 in fourth place among the wettest Septembers ever recorded in Mirante de Santana, considering the historical series that began in 1943.

The month, however, is not over yet. As new rain is forecast in the coming days, September could rise in the historical rankings.

The state coordinator of Protection and Civil Defense of São Paulo, Colonel Araújo Monteiro, highlighted the importance of monitoring meteorological conditions in light of the sequence of rains.

"Numbers like these show why monitoring cannot stop. Information and risk perception are what allow the population to protect themselves during this period. Prevention is what saves lives", he states.

Heavy rain expected to continue

The forecast indicates further rain in the coming days. For this Sunday (13), the forecast is for rainy weather throughout the day and also at night, with temperatures between 14°C and 16°C in the capital, according to Climatempo.

Civil Defense monitors meteorological conditions using radars and satellites and teams are mobilized to respond to possible occurrences.

Given the possibility of new heavy rains, the agency recommends that the population avoid flooded areas or areas with currents and not try to cross flooded roads. It is also important to pay attention to signs of risk on slopes and in areas close to streams and look for a safe place during storms.
